Iris Mae Heart

Iris Mae Heart is an emerging female artist who began pursuing art at the end of 2024, after becoming sick and realizing she needed to follow her dreams of being an artist. In her work, she explores everyday life and covers topics such as womanhood, aging, chronic illness, and more. Her art spans various mediums, including paintings, mixed media, and writing. An ongoing project of hers is a series titled “My Own Muse,” which features a collection of self-portraits that will tell the story and life of the artist, starting from childhood, moving through her greatest challenges, and ending with her newfound becoming, as both a woman and an artist. Outside of this project, she is also utilizing her voice to establish community with other marginalized artists, especially centering on women artists who are also chronically ill &/or disabled.

Everything and everyone is boring.

Where do I go?

I don’t have friends;

I’m deleting all the personality I put into others.

My voicemail is full—

from doctor’s offices and hospitals

—My texts are barren.

I try to keep in touch,

It’s the most I can do when I’m feeling good.

(I’m always the first to reach out)

How do I get out of here?

My body can’t leave

My mind can’t escape

Where do I go?

Everything and everyone is boring.
