monolith of doubt

Eleni Papaioannou

Eleni Papaioannou is a Berlin-based artist exploring the notion of space through text, drawings, collages, and site-specific installations. Often located outside the confines of exhibition spaces, her site-specific installations make the audience stumble upon her work as they pass by. She deals with contradictions such as narrative and non-narrative, spoken and unspoken, space between meanings and words, and physical and conceptual space. Papaioannou holds an MA. in Art in Context from UdK, Berlin, and a BA. in Fine Art (Distinction) from ASFA, Athens. She has won several grants and prizes. She has participated in many shows in Germany, Spain, and Greece.

Haiku Poetry (selected poems)

Hidden fear of death

Drops every day on my skin

Silently painful

Concrete monolith

Not even the slightest crack

In your linelike lips

Perfectly combed hair

The same gestures everyday

As life passes by

To whisper in tears

Uncommon words, unsaying fears

It´s how one survives?

Unfolded secrets

Shellless pale, placed on a silk

Asking to be heard

Thin toxic yellow

Which sickness would you order

This tardy evening?

Black charcoal

And mouth full of soil

Breathless

Homage to J. Kounellis
