Giulia Sachs is a German-Italian artist and writer, currently studying at the Image and Language Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. In their process, they aim to connect bodies, build, and reflect on institutionalized structures of care and the lack of them. Through reading, writing, performing, sculpting, and organizing workshops, they let their and others’ bodies speak from their experiences.
Temporary bodies
My body is temporary, and so is yours.
My body is the medium in which I experience this world.
My body is in this world.
My body reminds me
Of the things I can and can’t do
It is a constant reminder of the abilities and disabilities of its own existence
It is a reminder that death exists
It is a reminder that being sick or disabled means being closer to death
It is a reminder, it is a mirror to you and that is why you are afraid of me
I am a mirror to you
And I remind you of your own
What do you see when you look at me?
How does your flesh feel when you touch it and squeeze it tight?
Do you want to rip your self apart as much as I do?
I wanna cum all over your soft presence and remind you you have a body too
That is vulnerable
That its vulnerabilities can co exist with its strengths
That your vulnerability doesn’t have to be your strength
That you, one day, will be disabled and sick too
That sickness in fact, is a fact of life
And to have a body, is to remind yourself, you live and die too.
My body is a mirror,
My body is a reminder,
My body is a page, an object
But not an invitation to be written all over, by everything but the truth
My body is temporary
And so is yours.
